At the Faculty of Psychology of the University of Vienna the position of a

University Professor
Clinical Psychology of Childhood and Youth

(full time, permanent position; in case of a first time appointment to a professorship, the appointment may be initially limited – with an extension option) is to be filled.

The professorship represents the academic field “Clinical Psychology of Childhood and Youth” in research and teaching. Successful candidates are characterized by an empirical research profile with a focus on “Clinical Psychology of Childhood and Youth”. Concerning content and methods compatibility with the thematic areas of the faculty ( and especially with those of the “Institute of Applied Psychology: Health, Development, Enhancement and Intervention” ( should be recognizable. Furthermore, substantial engagement (in research, teaching and practice) in the outpatient unit of the faculty (founded in fall 2017) is expected. Teaching load comprises eight semester hours per week in bachelor’s-, master’s-, and PhD-programs.

Successful candidates should have the following qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree/PhD and  post-doctoral experience at a university or other research institution
  • Habilitation (venia docendi) in a subject field relevant to this position or an internationally accepted equivalent qualification is desirable
  • Qualification in “Clinical Psychology/ Health Psychology” and/or “Psychotherapy”, preferably with a specialization in “Clinical Psychology of Childhood and Youth”
  • Candidates who are still comparably junior, but based on their track record show high academic potential, are explicitly encouraged to apply
  •  Outstanding achievements in research (among others: excellent publication record and international reputation)
  • Experience in designing and raising research projects (third-party funds), as well as the willingness and ability to lead research groups
  • High interest and engagement in teaching, teaching experience at universities or a teaching concept as well as the ability and willingness to teach students in all phases of their studies (bachelor's, master's, or doctoral level), to supervise academic theses and to promote young academic colleagues

The University of Vienna expects the successful candidate to acquire, within three years, proficiency in German sufficient for teaching in bachelor’s programmes and for participation in university committees. In addition, the University of Vienna expects the successful candidate to be prepared to take over responsibility on the organisational level of the Faculty and the University, if necessary.
